Women and child development (WCD) minister Smriti Irani is all set to take charge on June 03. Speculation was rife that one of the giant killers of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, who has defeated Congress president and Nehru-Gandhi scion Rahul Gandhi from his bastion Amethi, is sulking for not being given the kind of ministry she might have thought about. But she has proved her detractors wrong once again.

 

There was a clear instruction that newly sworn in ministers must take charge of the office as soon as possible and get into action. She has already had briefings about the ministry from the outgoing minister Maneka Gandhi and already planned the first programme of the ministry. She has planned to meet all women MPs at a dinner on June 20 to tell the mandate of the ministry to them and to seek their co-operation on this. The dinner will also have all women officers in ministries of the rank of JS and above. Ministry of textiles will organise some stalls of fabrics and garments made by master crafts women. This is her own way to announce that she ‘has arrived’.

 

There were lots of ups and downs for Smriti when she was shifted to textiles ministry from Human resource development ministry then also lots of speculations did rounds that new minister for HRD Prakash Javadekar kept on waiting for her and she did not turn up but Javadekar had made that clear by saying that she is like her younger sister and there is no question of she being angry.

 

Recognizing her once again, she was given additional responsibility of I&B ministry due to M Venkaiyah Naidu being elevated as Vice President of the country but some of her tough decisions caused her loosing the ministry and minister of state Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was made in-charge and once again she was left with just textile ministry. But the BJP had shown faith in her and she was supported by organization to trounce Rahul Gandhi from Amethi.

 

She has been given the two important ministries that two cabinet minister were dealing with. No one knows if she wanted any particular ministry one thing is sure that she will join the ministry as she is committed to the organization. Moreover, she cannot question prudence of the Prime Minister.
