Chandigarh (09.12.2025): Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has returned Haryana government's panel sent for Director General of Police with specific objections and suggestions. The name of DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor (IPS: 1990: HY), who is on leave, is also included in this panel. His two-month leave is ending on December 14, 2025.
The UPSC, while sending the panel back to the Haryana government, has said that according to the Prakash Singh case of the Supreme Court, the state government should send a proposal for the name of the Director General of Police in the pre-estimated situation of vacancy, but Shatrujeet Kapoor is only on leave and can join back anytime, hence at present the post of DGP is not vacant.
Kapoor is currently DGP of the state and he will join the same post after returning from leave, the government has to decide whether to keep Kapoor on the post of Director General of Police or not or transfer him to some other post.
After the suicide of Y Puran Kumar (IPS: 2001: HY), DGP Kapoor had gone on leave for two months to avoid any controversy. Then the state government made OP Singh the acting DGP. The current acting Director General of Police OP Singh is retiring on December 31 this year, while Shatrujeet Kapoor's retirement is on October 31, 2026.
