A month later Bank Board Bureau (BBB) had sent its views to the government on the issue of granting extension to the SBI Chairman the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday announced one year extension to Ms Arundhati Bhattacharya, the outgoing SBI Chairman. Her tenure was set to end on 06th October though she had attained the retirement age in March 2016. She will continue to head SBI till October 06, 2017.
The decision on her extension has been taken jointly by the Bank Board Bureau and the Finance Ministry.
Post merger of its five associate banks and Bhartiya Mahila Bank it will be in a position to compete with the largest bank in the world with an asset of base of Rs 37 lakh crore and over 50 crore customer.
Reportedly, this is the very back ground Ms Bhattacharya gets one year extended tenure as SBI Chairman.
