New Delhi (20.06.2023): The Centre on Tuesday appointed Swaminathan Janakiraman as a Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a tenure of three years.
Janakiraman, currently managing director of State Bank of India, will succeed Mahesh Kumar Jain whose tenure ends on June 22. Jain was appointed as a deputy governor in June 2018 for three years. He was re-appointed in June 2021 for a further two-year period.
Besides Jain, there are three more Deputy Governors in the RBI -- Dr M D Patra, M Rajeshwar Rao and T Rabi Sankar. Deputy RBI governor has three year’s fix term. Dr Patra got one year’s extension and his tenure would end on January 14, 2024. Tenure of Rao will go up to October 2023 while Rabi Sankar took over in May this year only.
