BJP leadership has made four choices for the Rajya Sabha berth including grass root leader from Uttar Pradesh Ram Shakal, Indian classical dancer Sonal Mansingh, international authority on stone carving Raghunath Mohapatra and a professor of Motilal Nehru College in Delhi Rakesh Sinha.
There is exclusive category of twelve Rajya Sabha members from different fields of eminence who have practical knowledge in literature, science or art or they have profound practical experience where eight vacancies were already filled and four vacancies were existing. These four candidates have been approved by the President of India on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and thus all fourteen vacancies have been filled. Thus people of eminence from separate categories have been elevated to Rajya Sabha. All four have substantial knowledge and experience in their own field. Sonal Mansingh is running Centre for Indian Classical Dances in Delhi since 1977. Raghunath Mohapatra has worked on the beautification of Sri Jagannath temple in Puri. His famous works include a six feet high statue of Sun God carved in grey sandstone in the Central Hall of Parliament and the Wooden Buddha, Buddha Temple, Paris.
