New Delhi (05.03.2022): While the voters of Lucknow's Sarojini Nagar assembly constituency reserve their right to choose their representative, BJP's new candidate Rajeshwar Singh has surprised everyone with his high-decibel election campaign, his oratorical skill and his neatly crafted team and effective ground management; all in a short-span of 20 days since he got party symbol to contest assembly elections as BJP candidate. Once seen and considered as the nemesis of former finance minister P Chidambaram, former ED officer told Indianmandarins.com “I want to enjoy my newly found freedom as an MLA candidate traveling all across, delivering speeches and motivating youths. This is something anyone would want to enjoy after decades of an anonymous stint as a civil servant.” Singh belongs to an illustrious family of bureaucrats with his brothers, sisters, and many relatives reaching to the top echelons of administration. His wife Lakshmi Singh is an Inspector General of Police of the Lucknow zone and his father Ram Bahadur Singh retired from a senior post (DIG), received the President gallantry award, and a road in Lucknow is named after him. Singh is well remembered for investigating high-profile scams like Aircel-Maxis, Westland Helicopter, 2G spectrum allocation, the Commonwealth Games scam, Amrapali, Noida Ponzi Scheme, Gomti Riverfront, and the coal mines allocation. Various poll surveys suggest that he could win the Sarojini Nagar seat, the only debatable point being the margin of his victory. His seat is the focus of discussion not only among state politicians but has also drawn curious attention from New Delhi's power corridors. He informed the students that nothing could be hidden in these digital times even if they are done by mistake. He advised them to be careful about their activities in the digital world. His campaign has the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and former Union minister Uma Bharti besides, of course, of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who also held a mega roadshow for him. Union Minister Kaushal Kishore too held several rallies in his support. Apna Dal (S) national president Anupriya Patel, Lok Sabha MPs Manoj Tiwari, and Dushyant Singh too campaigned for him. Strategic planning for the election management was done by Godda Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey who stayed there from filing nominations till the polling for 20 days. Uma Bharti and Sakshi Maharaj had held rallies and roadshows and door-to-door campaigns for him. State cabinet ministers Mahendra Singh and Dy CM Dinesh Sharma also lend their support to his campaign. The opposition is also not letting anything go in campaigning against him. The SP candidate against Singh is a close ally of Akhilesh and is backed to the hilt. Both Akhilesh and wife Dimple have campaigned in support of their candidates. Priyanka Gandhi, too, held a rally against him. It's a tough fight in the sense of winning the hearts and minds of the people.
