The Rajasthan ACB has booked a 2010 batch IPS officer, Manish Agarwal, on corruption charges. The Rajasthan cadre officer is also remanded in police custody for two days. He is currently posted as the commandant of the State Disaster Response Force, Jaipur.
The ACB action followed after a petrol pump owner, Neeraj Meena, was arrested for allegedly demanding Rs 38 lakhs from a construction firm on the officer’s behalf.
The alleged extortion attempt is said to have been made when Agarwal was posted as SP at Dausa. The construction company owner had then complained to the ACB and alleged that the district administration including the police had been demanding money for facilitating a highway construction project in Dausa that was being executed by him.
After verifying the complaint, the ACB on January 13 arrested two SDMs and petrol pump owner Neeraj Meena. Then Dausa SDM Pushkar Mittal was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh and Bandikui SDM Pinky Meena was held for demanding Rs 10 lakh. And Neeraj Meena was arrested for demanding a bribe of Rs 38 lakh on behalf of Agrawal, who a week earlier was transferred from Dausa to Jaipur.
