New Delhi (11.01.2022): Checking the proliferation of fake news and rumors on social media may prove to be a new challenge for UP police in view of the Election Commission of India allowing digital campaigns. Everyone on social media is trying to occupy mindspace of voters in the digital world, the police have their work cut out to ensure rumors are not spread through such mediums resulting in communal or caste tensions. Hate speech will also be closely monitored on social media and digital platforms, and prompt action could follow, including flagging of handles in close coordination with Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.
