Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that officers posted in difficult or backward districts should consider themselves 'privileged' for the opportunity to bring positive changes to the regions. Addressing a conference on Transformation of Aspirational Districts and interacting with officials in-charge of the transformation of 115 backward districts, he said, "Usually officers are worried when they get a posting in a less-developed region. This should not be the approach. Officers should be glad that they have got the opportunity to make even the slightest of change in these troubled areas." "Usually officers tend to avoid such postings. This should not be the case as all known and better-performing officers have worked in some of the worst performing districts in the country," he added. The PM said that there have been instances of positive actions initiated by certain officers that were shelved when they were transferred. He said that the 115 backward districts will be monitored on various development parameters for the coming three months. He added, "Depending on the performance of these districts, I will visit the best performing one and will want to learn from the officers-in-charge about the approach adopted to do well."
