Indianmandarins has learnt that Ravi Manubhai Parmar (IAS:1992:BH) may be appointed as regular chairman of Kandla Port Trust (KPT). He is currently deputy chairman of Mumbai Port Trust and has been holding the additional charge of KPT since January 2014.
The post of KPT Chairman fell vacant after P D Vaghela (IAS:1986:GJ) was repatriated in October 2013. Ever since, KPT has gone through a lot of uncertainty. Four months ago, the government reportedly received a proposal recommending the name of 1986 batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer Pankaj Kumar for the post. Kumar is currently serving in Gujarat as MD of Gujarat State Transport Corporation. However, the government has not found him suitable for the job.
Efficient functioning of KPT is important because of its global standing. It was conferred Port of The Year Award by International Seafarers Welfare Association (ICSW), London, under the Chairmanship of P D Vaghela in 2012. In addition, it also received the Major Port of the Year Award from Maritime and Logistics Awards (MALA) in September 2013 fourth time in a row.
