As reported first by  Indianmandarins, the 1983 batch IPS officer R K Pachnanda was placed at the helm of ITBP which has the responsibility of guarding the borders with China-occupied Tibet. He would continue to hold the additional charge of NDRF. Pachnanda, who is succeeding Krishna Chaudhary, is the only IPS officer who has served in all the other central forces and agencies - BSF, CRPF, CISF, SPG, NDRF, CBI. "I will be working according to the policies of the government at the Sino-Indian border," he said. The West Bengal cadre officer, who has authored the 2001 bestseller "Terrorism and Response to Terrorist Threat", has a herculean task of handling the 90,000-men strong border guarding force, which serves in the harshest of terrain and weather conditions. He will have to address jawans' welfare concerns.
