Some senior IAS and IPS officers are setting new and healthy precedents. Hard on the heels of a DGP rank IPS officer throwing a farewell party to say goodbye to his old colleagues, outgoing Housing Secretary Nandita Chatterjee surprised 28 officials of her ministry by hosting her own farewell lunch on Thursday at the Civil Services Officers' Institute. The officials were pleased as it was a departure from the usual practice when they were made to contribute to farewell parties.
What might have prompted Ms. Chatterjee to do it is not known. What is known is that officers didn't like the farewell given by former UD Secretary Madhusudan Prasad for which they were asked through an internal circular to make contributions.
Further, UD Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, who has already set many healthy precedents in his ministries, hosted on Friday morning a breakfast farewell at his residence for all three of his outgoing Secretaries: besides Chatterjee, UD Secretary Rajiv Gauba and I&B Secretary Ajay Mittal, who has been transferred to the Department of Personnel & Training, were invited.
