The issue of whether CAG Shashi Kant Sharma, a former Defence Secretary, can guide the PAC when the CAG report on AgustaWestland comes up before the Parliamentary Accounts Committee, was taken up in a Wednesday's meeting. Opening a debate on the matter, senior Trinamool MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy told the panel that Sharma cannot sit in the meeting when reports on the Defence Ministry is discussed. BJP and non-UPA members in the panel supported Roy's stand and demanded that there should be clarification on it. Congress members, on the other hand, said there is no issue as the Supreme Court itself had commented on it when the UPA government appointed Sharma as the CAG. They argued that the report on Agusta issue was tabled by the CAG in 2013 and it has been pending before the panel even when Joshi was chairman.
