Kolkata (24.01.2022): The meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate the implementation of government schemes in a time-bound manner was conspicuously missed by district magistrates of West Bengal. The development comes at a time when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to the PM twice to oppose proposed changes by the central government to the IAS cadre rules. Almost all opposition-ruled states CM’s have opposed change in the cadre laws. Earlier former chief secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay too missed PM’s meeting.
The Opposition BJP in Bengal alleged that the absence of all 22 DMs from the state was because it was an instruction by the “political bosses” in West Bengal. The Trinamool Congress, however, said a meeting of DMs called without representation from the state governments was “unfair”.
