New Delhi (27.11.2025): The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated disciplinary action against Santosh Verma, a state services officer promoted to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS: 2012: MP), for allegedly making highly objectionable comments targeting the Brahmin community. The officer has been suspended by the MP government.
Verma, who serves as the state president of the Anusuchit Jati Evam Janjati Adhikari Evam Karmachari Sangh (AJAKS), has been issued a show-cause notice by the state administration. The notice specifically addresses a controversial statement he made during the AJAKS provincial convention.
The Controversy
During the convention, Verma reportedly made a comment linking the continuation of reservation policies to inter-caste relationships involving Brahmin women. Sources indicate his exact words were: "Until a Brahmin donates his daughter to my son, or has a relationship with her, reservations should continue."
The Madhya Pradesh government has deemed this remark as a serious breach of conduct for a civil servant.
Service Rules Invoked
The notice explicitly states that Verma’s comments are damaging to "social harmony and generate hostility between communities," which it finds "inappropriate for a civil servant," and qualifies as serious misconduct under the service rules.
The administration has invoked the following statutes against the IAS officer:
* All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968 (Rules 3(1), 3(2)(b)(i)(ii))
* All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969
The government has demanded an explanation from Verma as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him under Rule 10(1)(a) of the 1969 Rules. Verma has been given a period of seven days from the receipt of the notice to furnish his response. The move signals a firm stance by the MP government against civil servants whose actions are perceived to incite social discord or communal tension.
