In a move that reflects high degree of confidence of NaMo administration to return to power again selection process for top level NITI Aayog officials were undertaken with a sense of urgency on Wednesday (15 May 2019).

Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the Aayog held interviews today to select incumbents for five positions of Adviser (JS level) and Senior Adviser (Additional Secretary level) to look after sectors like Economics, Transport, Energy, Human Resources etc.

These posts were advertised in June 2018 with one month window for submitting applications. So far as many as 300 applications were received of which only 13 candidates were finally shortlisted by the Screening Committee comprising of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant (IAS:1980:KL); Special Secretary, Yaduvendra Mathur (IAS:1976:RJ) and Joint Secretary, Alok Kumar (IAS:1993:UP).

Surprisingly, the Screening Committee was constituted only in the second week of April 2019, or almost eight months after the posts were advertised.

Out of 13 shortlisted candidates four have reportedly expressed unwillingness for the coveted positions in the Aayog. This left only nine candidates on the turf for selection. Some of these candidates are still awaiting cadre clearance, integrity certificate and APRs. Among the nine two are internal aspirants for the posts.

Those in the know about goings on in the Aayog’s point out that for five senior (JS and AS level) positions the small number of shortlisted candidates are too few to pick the best among the lot which could have easily been available for the vacant positions.
