Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that National Women's Commission (NCW) Chairperson, Ms. Lalitha Kumaramangalam, has been running the office from her home for the last couple of months. She is said to be unwell.
Well regarded for her stand on women's issues, she has been somehow not able to pull her team along. The only Joint Secretary in NCW, Ms. Vandana Gupta (IP&TA&FS:1990), is said to have been relieved on March 31 at her personal request. There are a lot of other examples.
Despite her brusque manners, she has been in news for good reasons when she questioned the absence of woman judge on the SC bench hearing triple talaq issue. She had said that "Though I am not questioning the competence of any of the judges, Justice R Banumathi should have been there".
She has often said that "While the triple talaq issue has turned political, it is purely a human rights issue,".
