The Centre in December 2025 moved NCM Secretary Neelam Shammi Rao (IAS: 1992: MP) to the Ministry of Textiles replacing her with Sanjay Sethi (IAS: 1992: MH) who did not join the position at NCM. 

So, at a time when the Waqf Amendment Act is a present-day reality the NCM is functioning without a Chairperson and Secretary. The influx of complaints and applications from minorities has been piling up and NCM is managing the affairs with a Joint Secretary & a few deputy secretaries leaving officials clueless as when the two top positions would get their incumbent.
