myth-busted-ias-holds-sway-in-js-rank-appointments The myth stands busted: A study of appointment data by Indianmandarins reveals that contrary to the prevailing perception, IAS officers continue to hold as much importance in the Modi administration as before especially in terms of appointment to the post of Joint Secretary in the Govt of India. Altogether 68% of all Joint Secretary level posts in the central government are held by IAS officers - like the way it has been in the previous governments. May it be noted that ever since the swearing in of the NDA government in May 2014, none from IRS C&CE has been given a berth in JS rank appointment in Govt of India. Of the 346 JS rank appointments made since May 26, 2014 (up to 05 April 2016) as many as 219 (68 percent) are IAS officers, 25 Indian Forest Service officers, 18 IPS officers, 15 IRS Income Tax officials, 11 Indian Foreign Service officers, 11 CSS officers, 07 IA&AS (Indian Audit & Accounts Service) officers, 06 IPoS (Indian Postal Service) officers, 05 IP&TAFS (Indian Post & Telecommunication Accounts and Finance Service) officers, 05 other Services, and nil from IRS C&EC (Customs & Central Excise). The reasons for nil JS level posting for IRS C&CE may be revealed by Indianmandarins in its forthcoming reports. At the moment, it may suffice to state that there is no particular bias against this service.
