New Delhi (04.09.2024): Just before Delhi Assembly elections which are likely in January-February 2025, a presidential promulgation has notified that Delhi
Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena would be subject to direct control of the
President of India in place of earlier provisions of being under the
administrative control of Union Home Ministry. This power has been delegated to LG in the matters of
constituting any authority, board, commission or any statutory body whatever
name it may be called or appointment of any government officer or ex officio
member to such authority, board, commission or any statutory body. The order
clearly means that now LG need not to send any such proposal for approval to
Home Ministry increasing the power and privileges of Delhi LG. Soon after the notification, the Delhi LG asked MCD
Commissioner to notify the appointment of deputy commissioners as presiding
officers for MCD ward committee polls.
