He is re-employed as the chief executive of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) - the position he held before retirement. Defying the opposition charges and innuendos, the government has invoked the clause in the MSRDC's constitution that allows it to even hire a retired IAS officer as the company's managing director and vice chairman. "Several MSRDC projects including the Samruddhi Corridor project, the Bandra-Versova sea link project, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway's missing link projects, and the construction of a third bridge along the Sion-Panvel Highway were at a decisive phase. Considering the ardent need to take all these projects to a secure stage, the government has approved the reappointment of Mopalwar on the MSRDC on a contract basis," states the PWD's order. But many in the state's bureaucracy are not convinced about the rationale to reemploy him. Senior government sources say that Mopalwar is being investigated by the state's ACB and the Enforcement Directorate, and hence the government logic of reemploying him does not cut ice.
