After Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramaniam stated that the new Economic Survey will contain a large section on Universal Basic Income (UBI), the opposition and its economists were quick to do their calculation and they worked out that the government, through its strengthened and revamped DBT and Jan-Dhan accounts, wanted to transfer Rs 1,000 per month to all targeted groups, particularly to the people below poverty line. If this scheme is announced in the budget, it's anyone's guess who the people will vote for. And hence the opposition.
