As
reported first by a senior journalist Meetu Jain on October 25 the NaMo
administration, on Saturday, appointed Sanjay Kumar Mishra (IRS:1984) to the
post of Principal Special Director, Enforcement Directorate and announced him
as interim Chief vice Karnal Singh (IPS:1984:UT) for a period of three months. It may be underlined that Mishra fulfils the eligibility conditions to become full-fledged Director of ED. Currently he serves as Chief Commissioner Income Tax (New Delhi) and has wide-ranging
experience including in investigation and foreign tax matters. This
will be the first time an Indian Revenue Service officer would take over as the
ED chief. Karnal Singh completed the fixed two year tenure on 26 October as ED
Chief. Ever
since Mishra’s name was anticipated as next ED Chief it had evoked enthusiasm
among IRS officers as he is considered to have contributed a lot to his cadre.
Reportedly, he played critically important role which had led to the deployment
of several IRS officers overseas. Mishra
has been involved in the probe against NDTV and has “guided†the investigation
in the National Herald case. Earlier he has also served in Nagpur and Ahmedabad
and has done stints as Joint Secretary, MHA.
