Govt has appointed Rina Mitra (Retd IPS:1983:MP), the first woman IPS officer
from West Bengal, as Bengal’s Principal Security Adviser on internal security.
Though her responsibilities of the newly created post would be defined later.
Ms She retired from the post of Special Secretary (Internal Security) Union
Home Ministry on January 31, 2019. She was one
among the 12 shortlisted officers for the post of CBI chief. But he name was
dropped from the panel after the selection committee meeting was deferred to
the day after her retirement. Reportedly,
she will be reporting directly to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the
rearrangement of security agencies in the state.
