NEW DELHI (12.05.2026): Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi submitted a formal dissent note during today’s high-powered committee meeting to select the next CBI Director. The session, held at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg with PM Narendra Modi and CJI Surya Kant, lasted over an hour but concluded without an official announcement.

Rahul Gandhi labeled the selection a "biased exercise" and a "mere formality," alleging he was denied prior access to the self-appraisal and 360-degree reports of the 69 shortlisted candidates.

The committee is reportedly is said to have decided the name narrowing down candidates from the 1989-1991 IPS batches, with frontrunners including:
Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor (IPS: 1990: HY)
Praveer Ranjan (IPS: 1991: AGMUT)
G.P. Singh (IPS: 1991: AM)
