New Delhi (09.09.2024): Amid the Supreme Court hearing and in the backdrop of the resignation of TMC Rajya Sabha Member and former IAS officer turned politician Jawahar Sircar (Retd IAS: 1975: WB) the BJP has intensified demand seeking the dismissal of Kolkata Police CommissionerVineet Goyal (IPS: 1994: WB).
It may be underlined that the Supreme Court today slammed Kolkata police for the inordinate 14-hour delay in filing of the FIR.
Citing the coming Dussehra Puja Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the Police Chief cannot step down as the festive season calls for special stress on law and order.
"Kolkata Police Commissioner has come to me several times last week and offered to resign. We have 'Pujo' coming up. Someone who is aware of law and order has to be there. If you have patience for a few days, will it be Mahabharat (not a big issue)?, she said.
