New Delhi (25.04.2023): If all surveys turn out to be true, there would be a Congress government in Karnataka next month with a thumping majority. Survey conducted by ABP C Voter Polls gives the Congress 115-127 seats and BJP 68-80 seats; Poll of Polls Survey stands at 134-140 for Congress, 54-61 for the BJP while Daily Tracker predicts 153 seats for Congress and just 42 for the BJP. The Lok Poll Survey also gives the Congress a comfortable victory with 128-131 while for the BJP their number is 66-69. Numbers for JD (S) are hovering around 17 to 35 seats in all surveys.
The election campaign is in full swing but the last moment campaign will actually decide which way the election is going to tilt. But despite all pollsters predicting an edge for the Congress, the BJP is ahead in poll strategy, campaign management and resources which have their own dynamics to win elections. As far as last week's internal survey of the BJP goes, the party that was losing the Karnataka battle is inching towards breaching the 100 seat mark in 224-member Assembly. JD (S), BSP, BRS and AAP in their own fashion are spoiling the game for the Congress by dividing the anti-incumbency votes and of course never say die approach of the BJP leadership.
The BSP had won Kollegal Assembly seat where its candidate N Mahesh got elected in 2018 Assembly polls. The party polled at least 1000 votes in the constituencies on which it fielded candidates in 2018 and in certain constituencies they secured over 5000 votes. BSP can spoil chances of many and so is the case with the BRS which is siding with JD (S). Even a Congress rebel R Akhanda Srinivas Murthy is contesting from Pulakeshinagar on a BSP ticket.
The campaign strategy of the Congress is disjointed to capitalize on the visible anger against the saffron camp especially on corruption charges. But the BJP has the edge of the PM still being the numero uno leader for people of Karnataka with no leader even close to him in popularity and support base. With these facts and factors, Karnataka elections are going to be interesting with all these intelligent conjectures. They will continue as exit pool when the voting and stop only after results are announced.
