New Delhi (25.07.2023): The Union government notified the appointment of Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of Justice Upadhyay, Justice Thakur and five other judges as Chief Justices of seven High Courts on July 5. Justice Upadhyaya graduated from Lucknow University in 1991 and enrolled as an advocate the same year. He practised at the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court before being elevated as an additional judge in 2011. In 2013, was took oath as a permanent judge.
Justice Thakur enrolled as an advocate in 1989 with Bar Council of Delhi and subsequently with Bar Council of Jammu & Kashmir. He was designated a Senior Advocate in 2011 and appointed as permanent judge of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir on March 8, 2013.
