Retired Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice L Narasimha Reddy is likely to be the next chairman of the CAT.
Since Justice Permod Kohli resigned in February this year, the tribunal was without a regular chairman. Though Justice Dinesh Gupta (Judicial Member of CAT, Allahabad Bench) has been officiating as the CAT Chairman since April 6, 2018 but he is all set to demit office on attaining 65 years of age on July 26, 2018.
However, speculation about the appointment of full time chairman of the CAT started doing rounds the power corridor of Lutyen's Delhi when last week 12 judicial and 15 administrative officers were appointed as CAT Member.
As for Justice Narasimha is concerned, it should be remembered that he was assigned by the Modi government to head the Judicial Committee constituted to implement the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme for the ex-servicemen.
In 1985, the CAT was established to adjudicate the disputes related to service matters of the government servants. It not only reduces the burden of various courts, but also provides speedy relief to the government servants.
