New HRD minister Prakash Javadekar may launch new IITs at Jammu, Dharwad, Bhilai and Goa by end-month. Further, since Swayam (also known as massive open online courses) is a project keenly tracked by the PMO and is likely to be launched by NaMo on August 15, he has urged ministry officials to address all unresolved issues with the PMO and clear pending files related to vacancies and appointments.
Javadekar has also queried about vacancies across institutes and asked officials to initiate the process of selection of candidates to fill them up. It is gathered that hundreds of files pertaining to a range of appointment and nomination issues were pending with his predecessor Smriti Irani's office. Several IITs, among others, await appointments of directors and chairpersons.
He has also called for institutional geo-tagging of schools and higher education departments at the earliest to identify most underserved areas in the country so that necessary action could be taken.
