Hard on the heels of the Northeast Development Conclave organized by the Indianmandarins.com last week, Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hiramatsu, said this Monday that Japan was keen to invest in the region particularly in the field of food processing, infrastructure development projects as the region has a wide range of possibilities and business opportunities.
Hiramatsu was in Shillong to pay a courtesy visit to the Governor of Meghalaya, Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhavan, Shillong.
"We attach great importance to the development of the Northeast and we talked about the possibility of all cooperation especially in the field of food processing, infrastructure development, and business opportunities and we are encouraging Japanese business community on the possibility to do business here," said Hiramatsu while talking to journalists in Shillong.
On his part, the Meghalaya Governor said the state was seeking the support of Japan in transferring appropriate technology for developing the strawberry planting material in the state considering the growing demand of Meghalaya strawberries.
The Governor earlier in a note addressed to the Japan Ambassador, stated that Japan is the world leader in Shiitake Mushroom production and in the past had collaborated with the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University and the similar gesture if extended to Meghalaya, will benefit immensely as it has what it takes for undertaking the mushroom cultivation.
