The J&K High Court has got
its first woman Chief Justice in Justice Geeta Mittal who has been the acting
Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. She is also the first woman from the field
of law and justice to be conferred India’s highest civilian honour (Nari Shakti
Puraskar) for woman which is presented for exemplary service to the cause of
upliftment of woman.
In addition, the Supreme Court too is all set to
get its third woman judge as the Union Law Ministry on Friday cleared
the appointment of Justice Indira Banerjee, Chief Justice of the Madras
High Court. Two more names have also
been cleared to be elevated as SC Judge; Justice Vineet Saran (CJ, Odisha HC) and Justice
K M Joseph (CJ, Uttarakhand HC).
