New Delhi (02.02.2022): Searches conducted by the Income Tax Department at the premises of a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer RN Singh in Sector-50, Noida (Uttar Pradesh), led to the recovery of 8.5 crore, of which Rs 5.77 crore is said to be unaccounted cash. The IT team had another recovery of four kg gold and diamond jewellery worth around Rs 2.8 crore. This jewellery belongs to a businessman linked with liquor industry, has been seized.
According to IT official, most of the cash recovered during the search belong to a Ghaziabad builder, a Delhi-based chartered accountant and a tobacco industrialist. IT sleuths are now examining whether this cash was linked to Benami property. The ongoing probe is also trying to ascertain if the owners of these lockers had any link with politicians or if the money was being made available for the assembly elections.
Singh was running a private firm- Manasam Noida Vault – from the basement of his house in A block of Sector 50. This company was opened in 2017, the same year Singh retired. The firm had 700 lockers. The IPS officer’s wife had the proprietorship of the company and son was the custodian of lockers.
