The outgoing and the 22nd Chief Election
Commissioner (CEC) O P Rawat (Retd IAS:1977:MP) will demit office on
December 01; just three days after presiding over the assembly elections in his
cadre state MP. Interestingly, Rawat's departure
would usher in Sunil Arora (Retd IAS:1980:RJ) whose appointment as the 23rd
CEC was announced on 26 November. Arora's cadre state Rajasthan would go to
polls on December 07 - five days after he takes over the charge from Rawat on
December 02. Since both officers enjoy the
goodwill of the opposition having been neutral but effective civil servants
through their careers, there is no murmur of protest.
