New Delhi (14.08.2024): When Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last week inducted five Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers, only a few noticed and made it a point which was not the case since the year 2012 or even before. The CBI is considered to be a Central Police Organisation (CPO) having majority of IPS officers serving it and CBI’s own Cadre. The CBI use to induct IRS officers too but inducting five IRS officers at SP-level in one go was rare.
A section of insiders says that this is an indication of expanding and diversifying the role of CBI. Reportedly, a year ago there was a sort of deliberation at the top to better equip the CBI for investigating corruption in the era of virtual transaction dominating and other complex form of corruption.
