IPS Suicide Row: Haryana DGP Kapoor Sent on Leave, OP Singh Appointed Interim Police Chief

Chandigarh (14.10.2025): Following intense public and political pressure related to the alleged suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, the Government of Haryana has sent Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor (IPS: 1990: HY) on leave. Om Prakash Singh (IPS: 1992: HY) has been appointed as the state's interim DGP.
The administrative action comes after the deceased officer’s detailed "suicide note" reportedly named DGP Kapoor and the then Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya. The note levelled serious allegations of caste-based discrimination, mental harassment, and professional victimization against the senior officers.
The newly appointed interim DGP, Om Prakash Singh, is the brother-in-law of the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away in 2020.
