Chandigarh (12.10.2025): In a swift response to the severe crisis triggered by the suicide of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar (IPS: 2001: HY), the Haryana government is actively considering sending DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor on extended leave and appointing an officiating police chief.
Reportedly, Alok Mittal (IPS: 1993) may be appointed as the officiating State DGP vice Kapur. The replacement is expected to restore confidence and administrative stability within the force. Following the uproar Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya has already been removed from his post, with Surender Singh Bhoria (IPS: 2014) taking his place. The Chandigarh Police have also constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, registering an FIR that includes charges of abetment to suicide.
The move comes amid mounting pressure on the state administration to address the allegations of harassment and administrative bias mentioned in the nine-page suicide note of Puran Kumar which, reportedly, named DGP Kapur and several other senior officers.
Currently, Mittal is serving as the ADG of Police and chief of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. It may also be underlined that Alok Mittal and Dr Ashindra Singh Chawla, both 1993-batch officers, were recently promoted in the rank of DGP.

Based on the complaint filed by Pooran Kumar's wife Amneet P Kumar (IAS: 2001: HY), the Chandigarh Police has registered a case. The case for abetment to suicide and under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been registered on the complaint of the wife of the late IPS officer Y. Pooran Kumar. The case has been filed against the individuals whose names were mentioned in the deceased's final note (suicide note).
