2014 batch IPS officer of UP cadre Surendra Kumar Das breathed his last at a private hospital in Kanpur on Saturday night. He was posted as SP (East) in Kanpur. Das had consumed poisonous substance and was admitted at the hospital on September 5 where he was struggling for life for the past five days.  A senior police officer said Das was suffering from mental agony and depression and was searching for ways to commit suicide on Google. A letter of Das has been recovered that indicates family feud. IPS Association has expressed grief on his death.

There are several instances of suicide committed by civil servants. In last couple of years over half a dozen cases of suicides committed by civil servants and their death under suspicious circumstances have shocked the country. The suicide committed by young IPS Das has again rung the alarm.
