Lucknow (07.11.2024): New guidelines for the selection of Director General of Police (DGP) by Uttar Pradesh cabinet may give a chance to Prashant Kumar (IPS: 1990: UP) to hold the post of DGP for a period of two years. If UP government selects him as permanent DGP, Prashant Kumar will retire two years after his selection on November 30, 2026 instead of his scheduled retirement on May 31, 2025. He will get additional 18 months.
After the formation of BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, eight DGPs have been appointed including four permanent DGPs. Among permanent DGPs, O P Singh (Retd IPS: 1983: UP) held office for two years while Mukul Goyal (Retd IPS: 1987: UP) was the last permanent DGP.
