Mumbai (07.03.2026): Mumbai’s suburban district has launched the ‘Saksham Skill Survey’, India’s 1st-of-its kind Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered skill census, an ambitious drive to study the skills of youth between 18 and 40 years of age and make them employable. Launched by Maharashtra’s Minister of Information Technology & Cultural Affairs, Ashish Shelar, who said this survey is expected to cover 55 thousand houses in the Bandra West in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Through this AI-based door-to-door survey, district authorities will study each candidate’s educational qualification, skill interest and the need for necessary training for employment. Accordingly, a list of government-approved institutions and the relevant courses will be shared with the candidates. According to Shelar, the aim is to train at least 15 thousand candidates by next year and make five thousand of them self-reliant through employment or entrepreneurship.
The survey will be conducted by Sapio Analytics over the next couple of months. The information will be collected using a standard and prescribed format. Shelar has informed us that this survey will try to set up India’s first decentralised, Artificial Intelligence based Workforce Intelligence model, adding that this initiative will be useful for long-term skill and employment planning at the local level.
