Seat to seat assessment indicated fifty seats (plus five or minus five seats). Any political party in Punjab needs 59 seats to form the government. Now Punjab chief minister Charanjeet Singh Channi is talking to each MLA and deliberating the issue as to how to form the government. Sunil Jakhar has already announced retirement. Sources claimed Navjot Sidhu is not happy with the state of affairs and reportedly said only “Congress can defeat the Congress.” Party’s top leadership told the MLAs not to target Sidhu till the poll results. Therefore, chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi is interacting with MLAs to explore various permutations and combinations for government formation. The discussion is focused upon how to get a majority if the party if just below the 59- seat mark.
