Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on April 04, 2020, approved the use of Tuberculosis machine for conducting COVID-19 tests. Presently India is using RT-PCR (Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing recommended by the US and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, ICMR has recommended the use of the Truenat test which is used to detect drug-resistant TB. Truenat, a battery-operated chip-based technology, takes a minimum of 60 minutes for a test of 32 to 48 samples. Currently, India has a total of 800 Truenat machines. Currently, India is importing kits and is not manufacturing locally.
