Union Minister Birender Singh, known for his competence, politeness, and witty remarks in Parliamentary debates wants to field his 46-year old son Brijendra Singh, a 1998-batch IAS officer currently posted as managing director, Haryana State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation (HAFED), for the Lok Sabha election.

Brijendra had already addressed several state-level farmers meet in Jind in December 2018 and it was seen as an indication of his keenness to enter electoral politics. The other first-timer name doing the rounds for Haryana Lok Sabha elections is of CM’s media advisor Rajiv Jain.

The name of wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt who won the bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic Games is also under consideration for fielding from Rohtak or other constituencies.

It may be noted that several sitting ministers, MLAs and party leaders of the ruling BJP in Haryana are staking their claims for the Lok Sabha tickets as the party is expected to field new faces in seven out of the total of ten seats of the state.

Sources said that the BJP’s central election committee meeting yesterday in Delhi discussed several probable names.

The state election committee had already submitted the panel of probable candidates on all the ten seats in the state to the party high command.
