In its notification issued Wednesday late evening the
Election Commission of India ordered the removal of Principal Secretary (Home)
Atri Bhattacharya (IAS:1989:WB) and Additional Director General of CID Rajeev Kumar (IPS:1989:WB) from
their postings in West Bengal. The notification (issued by Secretary, Rakesh
Kumar) clearly states that Rajiv Kumar will have to report to Union Home
Ministry at 10 am on May 16. The sudden development took place in the wake of
violence between BJP and Trinamool Congress workers in Kolkata the Election
Commission Further, invoking Article 324 of the Constitution the
ECI curtailed the campaigning for the last phase of the election on May 19. The
campaigning in 09 West Bengal constituencies will end at 10 pm on Thursday
night, a day before its scheduled deadline.
