IAF is planning to make rules little more stringent to prevent pilots from leaving service to join private airlines for a better salary. Some decisions have already been taken to check this trend. IAF is also amending its human resource policies to address aspirations of pilots by taking several measures including providing them greater clarity about their career prospects.

It is learnt that they could involve cooling-off periods and changes in pension plans. Most pilots leave the job after being overlooked for promotion however there have been cases of people putting in their papers before reaching that stage.

A middle-rung IAF pilot earns up to Rs 2 lakh a month but he could land a salary that is four times higher as captain in a private airline. It may be underlined that Most of the pilots quit service after being overlooked for promotion and completing 20 years of service which entitles them to a pension.
