New Delhi (22.01.2025):Amandeep Garg (IAS: 1999: HP), Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, has been entrusted with additional charge of the post of Chairman, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) till the appointment of a regular incumbent.
Garg will replace Tanmay Kumar (IAS: 1993: RJ), who is officiating as Chairman from August 2021 after the then Chairman Shiv Das Meena (IAS:1989:TN) was prematurely repatriated to the parent cadre on the request of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
CPCB is an apex organization for pollution control in the country which is committed to preserve wholesomeness of air and water. In almost five decades since its inception, CPCB has played a crucial role for pollution control, prevention and abatement. It has led efforts to preserve air and water quality by laying down standards for ambient air quality, water quality criteria, performing river basin studies and multi-city source apportionment studies, publishing technical reports, charters, frameworks and guidelines.
