The Central Information Commission, currently headed by Chief Information Commissioner Radha Krishna Mathur (Retd IAS:1979:MT), is plagued by a shortage of staff. Against its sanctioned strength of ten ICs, four or forty percent posts have been lying vacant despite there being no dearth of deserving candidates.
It may be underlined that six ICs functioning now are Yashovardhan Azad (Retd IPS:1976:MP), Bimal Julka (Retd IAS:1979:MP), Sudhir Bhargawa (Retd IAS:1979:GJ), Amitava Bhattacharya (Retd IAS:1980:GJ), Divya Praksh Sinha (Retd IPS:1979:MT) and M S Acharyulu (A laureate of Law and Journalism).
Like always, the CIC is currently IAS heavy - Including CIC, there are four former IAS officers. Another striking aspect is that officers from MP, Gujarat and Manipur-Tripura cadre have a sway over the CIC.
