
New Delhi (16.06.2025): Eight months after retirement as Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla (Retd IAS: 1990: AGMUT) appointed as Member (Technical) in Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL).
It may be underlined that Member (Technical) requires special knowledge and professional experience of not less than 25 years in matters dealing with electricity generation, transmission, distribution, regulation, economics, business, commerce, law, or finance.
APTEL consists of a Chairperson and multiple Members, including Technical Members and Judicial Members. Currently, APTEL is headed by Chairperson Justice Ramesh Ranganathan who has a tenure upto 01 December 2026.

- The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) is a statutory body established under the Electricity Act, 2003, in India. It hears appeals against the orders passed by various regulatory commissions, including the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs).
- It has jurisdiction over matters related to electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and trading, as well as disputes between licensees, generating companies, and consumers.
