New Delhi (17.07.2025): Kapil Raj (IRS: 2009), Additional Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes known for leading politically sensitive investigations, has resigned from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). His resignation has been accepted w.e.f. July 17, 2025.
At the time of his resignation, he was serving as the Additional Director in the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Delhi. He recently returned to his parent cadre after his deputation with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), where he served as an Additional Director. During his tenure at the ED, he spearheaded several high-profile and sensitive cases that made national headlines. He was repatriated to his parent cadre from the ED in December 2024.
Noteworthy Investigations:
  • Delhi Excise Policy Case: Kapil Raj led the ED team that investigated and subsequently arrested the then Delhi's sitting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
  • Jharkhand Land Scam: He was the supervising officer in the probe that led to the arrest of another the then serving Chief Minister Hemant Soren of Jharkhand.
  • PNB Scam: While posted in the ED's Mumbai office, he was involved in handling the major Punjab National Bank case concerning fugitives Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.
  • Other Major Cases: His name is also associated with probes into the West Bengal Coal Scam, the Yes Bank scam, and the Jharkhand mining scam.
