Once considered to be close to Rahul Gandhi was forced to part ways dues to dominance of Hoodas in the Congress in Haryana. The BJP may consider the Dalit leader pitting against Hoodas in their stronghold of Rohtak. Speculation about his joining the BJP started gaining ground after Tanwar met Haryana CM Manohar Lal.
